Busy week on tap at Mil­len­nium Li­brary

THE Mil­len­nium Li­brary has a busier-than-usual lineup of events for book lovers this week. The long-run­ning po­etry open-mike read­ing se­ries Speak­ing Crow runs Tues­day at 7 p.m. at the Carol Shields Au­di­to­rium. The fea­tured poet is Clarice Foster. On Thurs­day, Anne Ma­hon, au­thor of The Lucky Ones, will read and dis­cuss her book as part of the an­nual On the Same Page pro­mo­tion, which fo­cuses on one book to rec­om­mend to all Win­nipeg­gers. Ma­hon will ap­pear along with some of the peo­ple fea­tured in her book, which tells the story of African im­mi­grants to Man­i­toba. Next Satur­day, writer in res­i­dence Meira Cook hosts a pub­lic fo­rum on the art and joy of read­ing, shar­ing the stage with sev­eral book lovers who will dis­cuss read­ing and the role it plays in their lives. Pre­sen­ters at 11 a.m. will be Free Press colum­nist and re­viewer Al­li­son Gil­mor and graphic nov­el­ist David Robert­son; 1 p.m. pre­sen­ters in­clude na­tive stud­ies pro­fes­sor Peter Kulchyski, art cu­ra­tor Christa­bel Wiebe and the li­brary’s Danielle Pilon.
