Rower, cy­clist shar­ing sto­ries

TWO ac­com­plished ath­letes will be stop­ping in Win­nipeg to pro­mote books this month. Arvid Loewen, a 57-year-old Win­nipeg grand­fa­ther, will be ap­pear­ing at North Kil­do­nan Men­non­ite Brethren Church (1315 Gate­way Rd.) on Wed­nes­day, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. to launch his new book When Quit­ting is Not an Op­tion: My Road to Cy­cling, A Guin­ness World Record and Mak­ing a Dif­fer­ence. Loewen uses his ul­tra-marathon cy­cling as a plat­form to bring at­ten­tion to the is­sue of for­merly or­phaned and aban­doned chil­dren. Those in at­ten­dance will also be able watch a 30-minute doc­u­men­tary on Loewen’s “cy­cling min­istry.” For­mer Olympian and in­spi­ra­tional speaker Silken Lau­mann, mean­while, will be at McNally Robin­son Book­sellers Thurs­day, Feb. 20 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. to sign copies of Un­sink­able: A Mem­oir.
