Rower, cyclist sharing stories
TWO accomplished athletes will be stopping in Winnipeg to promote books this month. Arvid Loewen, a 57-year-old Winnipeg grandfather, will be appearing at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church (1315 Gateway Rd.) on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. to launch his new book When Quitting is Not an Option: My Road to Cycling, A Guinness World Record and Making a Difference. Loewen uses his ultra-marathon cycling as a platform to bring attention to the issue of formerly orphaned and abandoned children. Those in attendance will also be able watch a 30-minute documentary on Loewen’s “cycling ministry.” Former Olympian and inspirational speaker Silken Laumann, meanwhile, will be at McNally Robinson Booksellers Thursday, Feb. 20 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. to sign copies of Unsinkable: A Memoir.
