Winnipeg chefs prepare to leave it all on the plate
NINE of Winnipeg’s top chefs will battle for the top of the podium at this year’s edition of the Gold Medal Plates on Oct. 2 at the RBC Convention Centre. The nine chefs, who will be asked to prepare one appetizer-sized dish for about 520 guests, are Michael Dacquisto of Food Evolution; Edward Lam of Yujiro; Eric Lee of Pizzeria Gusto; Tim Palmer of the Velvet Glove; Norm Pastorin of the Grove/Cornerstone; Fabrizio Rossi of Nicolinos; Barry Saunders of Inn at the Forks and Michael Schafer of Sydney’s at the Forks. Last year’s gold medallist, Kelly Cattani of Elements the Restaurant by Diversity, will be one of the judges this year. Juno Award winner Barney Bentall and fiddler Anne Lindsay will be providing musical entertainment. Gold Medal Plates events are held in 11 Canadian cities in 2011; money raised goes to the Canadian Olympic Foundation. For more information about tickets, see www.goldmedalplates.com.
