Generous with jelly

Winnipeg Free Press - Section G - - THE SOCIAL PAGE -

I was riding my horse along the trails in Birds Hill park on Labour Day when I encountered a gentleman picking wild plums. He introduced himself as John, and as we chatted I learned he was a preserves aficionado and enjoyed making preserves out of a number of berries and fruits. I admitted I had never tried plum jelly before, and he kindly offered to leave me a sample the following week at a certain spot off the path. The next week, I found he had left me not one but three different kinds of jelly: plum, grape and cranberry. I want to let John know how grateful I am he took the time to expand my jelly repertoire, and that I will indeed return the jars next Labour Day weekend.
