Cast of Heart of Robin Hood includes Tony winner
TONY Award-winning performer Gabriel Ebert will play the title role in the Canadian première of The Heart of Robin Hood, set to open Nov. 13 at the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, it was announced Friday. The American singer/actor, who won a 2013 Tony for best actor in a musical for his work in Matilda the Musical, heads a 21-member cast with Tony nominee Euan Morton as Prince John. Izzie Steele will star as Marion. Paul Essiembre is the only local in the lineup, which also includes former Winnipegger Richard Clarkin. Directed by Gisli Örn Gardarsson, The Heart of Robin Hood was written for the stage by David Farr. The production had its British première in 2011 and was seen at the American Repertory Theater in 2013. The staging boasts swashbuckling, acrobatics, comedy, drama, cross-dressing, trap doors and aerial work. The musical features songs by the bluegrass-roots band Parsonsfield. Its five musicians perform on stage during the production. The production first plays Winnipeg Nov. 12-Dec. 6, prior to a Dec. 23-March run at Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre.
