Guy Maddin’s My Winnipeg acknowledged as classic by Criterion
CRITERION Collection, the art-house DVD distributor beloved by film aficionados, will add Guy Maddin’s My Winnipeg to its lengthy list of cinematic classics in January. My Winnipeg, the surreal, black-and-white quasi-documentary about Maddin’s hometown, will be available in a new high-definition digital restoration on DVD and Bluray, and will include such special features as cine-essays by the director on Winnipegiana and three Maddin shorts. The new cover was designed by former Winnipeg artist Marcel Dzama. My Winnipeg was critically acclaimed when it was first released in 2007. Film critic Roger Ebert placed it 10th on his list of best films of the decade.
