Fear of terrorists has affected bookings

Winnipeg Free Press - Section G - - DESTINATIONS -

While France certainly experienced a dramatic fall in new bookings in the aftermath of the Paris bombings, they have recovered reasonably well. But other nations have not. Thomas Cook, the huge international tour operator, recently reported that bookings to countries like Turkey, Tunisia and Egypt have fallen by five per cent. This may not seem like a huge percentage, but when the actual numbers are factored in to an industry whose profit margins are low to begin with, the impact is severe. These figures would have been even worse if travel patterns had not shifted. While the above mentioned countries were down, visits to countries like Spain, the Canaries and Balearics were actually up.
