No-hit­ter for Mud­hens

TOLEDO, Ohio — War­wick Saupold dom­i­nated through five in­nings, Bobby Par­nell pitched a per­fect ninth and the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens got their first nine-in­ning no-hit­ter since 1994 with a 5- 0 vic­tory over the Char­lotte Knights Satur­day.

Jose Lima had the last no-hit­ter for the Mud Hens in a 3- 0 vic­tory over Paw­tucket on Aug. 17, 1994. Toledo also had a seven-in­ning no-hit­ter in 1996.

Saupold struck out three and hit a bat­ter over five in­nings, and Pre­ston Guill­met fol­lowed with two per­fect in­nings. Lo­gan Kens­ing walked a bat­ter in the eighth be­fore Par­nell, the for­mer Mets closer, struck out one dur­ing a per­fect ninth.

This was the ninth no-hit­ter for the Mud Hens, in­clud­ing a seven-in­ning per­fect game by Joe Niekro in 1972.
