POLICE are asking for help identifying a suspect in an attempted child abduction Tuesday evening in St. James.

Around 6:15 p.m., a 65-year-old man in the 200 block of Booth Drive reported he and his eight-year-old grandson were walking down their apartment stairwell when a man walking the opposite direction asked them for the time.

The suspect allegedly threatened the grandfather and attempted to the grab the child, but neither he nor his grandfather were injured. They ran to a parking garage and notified police.

Police searched the area but could not find the suspect, described as Caucasian, 25 to 30 years old, about 6-2 and 250 pounds, with short, wavy hair and blue eyes. He was wearing an orange shirt with a black stripe in the middle and tan pants.

Anyone with information should call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
