Moose return to winning ways at home
League regular season was quickly erased with a 2-1 triumph over the Belleville Senators on Friday night at Bell MTS Place.
Mason Appleton scored the winning goal at 4:46 of the third period when he deposited a rebound behind Senators goalie Mike McKenna with Manitoba on the power play.
It was the first goal of the season for the AHL’s 2017-18 rookie of the year.
The Moose penalty killers did yeoman’s work, quashing six Belleville power-play chances including one in the final three minutes of the game.
Seth Griffith opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game. Rudolfs Balcers evened the game with just under four minutes left in the middle frame. Griffith also set up Appleton’s game winner in the final period.
Manitoba goalie Eric Comrie stopped 30 shots for his first win of the season, while McKenna made 28 saves.
The Moose, who lost twice last weekend to the Iowa Wild, are now 1-2-0. Manitoba and Belleville hook up again today at 6 p.m. at the downtown rink.
