Dakota Field­house open for busi­ness

The Dakota Com­mu­nity Cen­tre of­fi­cially opened its new Dakota field­house yes­ter­day, with help from Chicago Black­hawks cap­tain and the pride of Win­nipeg, Jonathan Toews, who lent his star power by de­liv­er­ing a video mes­sage to those on hand. Top: Riel MLA Rochelle Squires (cen­tre left) and Mayor Brian Bow­man (cen­tre right) are joined by politi­cians and com­mu­nity rep­re­sen­ta­tives in cut­ting the rib­bon to mark the grand open­ing of the field­house. The $20.5-mil­lion, 60,000-sq. ft. fa­cil­ity, lo­cated next to the Jonathan Toews Sport­splex, was helped by $7 mil­lion in fund­ing from the prov­ince and $6.5 mil­lion from the city; Mid­dle, Stacey Men­doza serves dur­ing a game of pick­le­ball; Mid­dle in­set: Dakota Com­mu­nity Cen­tre CEO Michele Augert speaks dur­ing the event.
