Cops: Stabbings may be linked

Winnipeg Sun - - NEWS -

Police are investigating a pair of stabbings that occurred Sunday night within an hour of each other and in close proximity.

At around 9:55 p.m., police responded to the report of a male being assaulted in the area of Ellice Avenue and Mcmicken Street. A 16-yearold boy was walking in the area when he was attacked by a number of suspects and stabbed. He was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

About 50 minutes later, police responded to a separate call involving the stabbing of a second male in the 400 block of Graham Avenue. An 19-year-old male was treated at the scene for nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police said investigators are pursuing the possibility that the two incidents are related. However, this has not been confirmed.

“We probably won’t know if they are linked until we make arrests.” said police spokesperson Const. Rob Carver.

Officers were at the scene of the Ellice and Mcmicken incident for much of the day Monday.

As well, police were at the scene Monday of a third incident at Donald and Ellice where an assault occurred at around 12:45 p.m. The victim, an adult male, was taken to hospital in stable condition. No further details were released.

The investigation into all of these incidents is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to investigators at 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786TIPS (8477).
