Police probe ‘suspicious’ death

Winnipeg Sun - - NEWS - — Scott Billeck

A suspicious overnight death in Winnipeg’s West

End neighbourhood is being investigated by the Winnipeg Police Service’s homicide unit.

Police say they responded to a call around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning in the 500 block of Furby Street where they found a man dead.

Police were mum on details at a Wednesday morning press conference, only revealing that the man had been found inside the home.

“The mechanism of death not determined at this point, which means we don’t know if it’s something that is noncriminal or if it is something that is criminal,” Const. Rob Carver said. “So we label it, when it is ambiguous at this point, as suspicious. It’s not obviously not criminal. It wasn’t a heart attack. There are some elements that may lead investigators to think there may be some violence associated, but they’re not sure.”

Carver couldn’t speak to whether the home was known to police.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204786-TIPS (8477).
