Po­lice seek pub­lic’s help af­ter tran­sit as­sault

Win­nipeg po­lice are ask­ing for the pub­lic’s help to find a man ac­cused of punch­ing a Win­nipeg Tran­sit driver in the face.

Po­lice say they were told about an as­sault on a city tran­sit bus on Jan. 21.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened around 4:35 p.m. at a bus stop at Portage Ave. and Fort St.

Po­lice say the man en­tered the bus and told the driver he didn’t have money to pay the fare.

A short time later, the sus­pect punched the man in the face, po­lice say, and fled on foot.

On Jan. 21, mem­bers of the Win­nipeg Po­lice Ser­vice were ad­vised of an as­sault that had oc­curred on a Win­nipeg Tran­sit bus.

The sus­pect is de­scribed as a black male in ap­pear­ance and ap­prox­i­mately 20 years old with an av­er­age build.

He was wear­ing a brown hooded jacket with blue jeans.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion is con­tin­u­ing by mem­bers of the Ma­jor Crimes Unit.
