A mag­i­cal jour­ney into Valle Ex

Iwas told by some friends that I had to go to Valle Ex­plo­radores. They men­tioned lakes with yel­low sand, green rivers, hang­ing glaciers, im­mense snow­capped moun­tains, wet­lands and ever­green forests. Mul­ti­ple scenes that give life to a unique ex­pe­ri­ence, a spec­tac­u­lar, 50-mile cross­ing of di­verse land­scapes and ecosys­tems that would de­light any­one. How could I re­sist?

That is how I ar­rived to Aysén, a par­al­lel world where na­tional parks and pro­tected ar­eas make up half the land. Home to Chile’s rich­est re­gion in fresh wa­ter, Aysén has some of the purest wa­ter in the world. It is also home to the third­largest ex­ten­sion of con­ti­nen­tal ice in the world, af­ter Antarc­tica and Green­land.

My ad­ven­ture be­gan in Puerto Tran­quilo, a town that is in­deed quite tran­quil. With no more than 450 habi­tants, it is lo­cated 140 miles south of Coy­haique near the turquoise wa­ters of Lake Gen­eral Car­rera, the sec­ond-
