Santiago’s Triple Crown

Patagon Journal - - CURRENTS -

Santiago, Chile, on a clear day is majestic with its cityscape surrounded by the Andes. As big cities go, then, it's not a bad place to be for someone who loves trekking in mountains. And just a stone's throw away from smogville, the triumvirate of Cerro Pintor (4,180m), Cerro Leonera (4,954m) and Cerro El Plomo (5,424m) make for spectacular high altitude treks. All accessible from the ski resorts near Santiago, these three mountains are commonly climbed in the summer months (December-March) as, without much snow, they require little or no technical equipment.
