Originally from Switzerland, Alessandra is a widely published and award-winning photographer. She says: “My work centres on the ancient heritage, customs, spirituality and daily life of indigenous people who are strongly connected to nature and whose traditional cultures are at risk of vanishing.” In this issue we see the photography that resulted from an overland winter trip through Mongolia, her first to the country, where she documented the struggles of such people. “I am motivated by the interplay between wild places and ancient cultures, as well as a fascination with, and respect for, native people who subsist in isolated regions of the world,” she says.
