Action Asia - - REAL DEALS -

ON THE SOUTHERN FRINGES OF Taiwan are two outlying islands called Green Island and Orchid Island, rich in aboriginal culture and marine life. Its dive sites are considered the finest in Taiwan, as they are isolated from the mainland. Escape to Orchid Island from Green Island during peak dive periods, as the crowds tend to pile up during the summer months. Orchid Island’s healthy coral reefs attract green sea turtles as well as schools of barracuda, hammerheads and dolphins. Also, a sunken Korean freighter on the ocean floor is a highlight for wreck divers to visit and explore. Ferries shuttle between Taitung’s Fukang Harbour and the islands throughout the day but travellers can expect rough seas. Otherwise, the islands are accessible via small planes from Taitung on Daily Air Corporation and Mandarin Airlines. Green Island Adventures offer scuba packages on both islands.
