THE SEV­ENTH T MBT UL­TRA-TRAIL Marathon on Septem­ber 16-17 was beau­ti­ful and bru­tal in equal mea­sure as par­tic­i­pants en­joyed stun­ning views of Mt Kin­a­balu and the sur­round­ing jun­gle-clad ridges and val­leys, while sweat­ing it out on tough climbs or skid­ding down steep de­scents. In the main 100- kilo­me­tre race, lo­cal run­ner Mil­ton Amat and Italy’s Alessan­dro Rizzetto Chini (right) of team Sherpa Dy­nafit tied for first place in 14 hours and 49 min­utes af­ter rac­ing neck-and-neck for the en­tire sec­ond half, with Ja­pan’s Yuta Mat­suyama third. In the women’s 100-kilo­me­tre cat­e­gory, Eszter Csil­lag of Hun­gary took the top hon­ours ahead of lo­cal run­ner, Re­jlen James, with Lauren Al­bart-le­brun of Canada in third. Vic­tory in the 50-kilo­me­tre race went to Tai­wan Beast Run­ner’s Petr Novotny from Czech Repub­lic among the men, and Hong Kong’s Chris, Yee Ting Kwan, among the women.
