The bigger picture
Starting next issue, Action Asia is widening our focus. We’ll still be bringing you the best of Asia’ s outdoors, but we also want to reflect the growing interest among Asian sand expats based here in going further afield for their adventures. Think of the number of Asians competing in the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB) trail race for instance, or trending destinations such as Iceland or South Africa. In the Jan/feb issue, we’ll get you started with 18 for 18: a dozen-and-a-half reasons to think longer haul next year.
Besides that, we’ll have National Geographic Expert Carroll Dunham writing about her recent rafting trip with photographer Jock Montgomery through the rust-red canyons of the Zanskar River in North India. River descents of a different kind feature in Gus Schiavon’s latest feature for us as he checks out the canyoning potential of the rivers of Iran, a country increasingly cropping up on adventure itineraries. Then we switch from rivers to peaks, with writer Ryan Stuart and photographer Ryan Creary riding into the land of the Kham in Tibet, past Minya Konka.
