Explore the enigma
THE SMALL MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRY of Jordan has plenty to offer the more intrepid traveller, as well as lovers of ancient history. Now Scott Dunn is offering a two-week itinerary to get to grips with some of its highlights. The trip begins in historic Amman whose ruins and museums provide guests with the ideal overview of a country with a history stretching back to Roman times. Next up are the salt-laden Dead Sea and nearby Dana Nature Reserve, renowned for its beautiful treks. Be sure to walk down through the valley to Feynan Ecolodge. Bring along a telescope if you have one as this is an ideal spot for stargazing, spending the night on the roof terrace without any electric light to interfere with the views. The desert of Wadi Rum should be included in every Jordan holiday. Here you spend a night in a luxurious camp with private bathrooms, exploring the desert by camel and jeep before sunset, and the next morning rising before sunrise for a hot air balloon ride. Last but not least, your north-south exploration is completed with a dive or snorkel in the Red Sea for a glimpse of Arabia’s surprising underwater world. Visit www.scottdunn.com, for more info.
