Calling men and women of Sparta
THE FOURTH SPARTAN RACE HONG KONG saw a 8.2km Sprint-only race at the new venue in Ha Bak Nai, Yuen Long. Nearly 5,000 adults and 1,250 kids stormed off along the shore there after three massed cheers: ‘Aroo, aroo, aroo’! Spread throughout the mixed terrain course were 20 obstacles offering physical and mental challenges, of ten along with intense cardio effort. Racers started off pacing each other on a steep muddy trail uphill and downhill, before the ‘Olympus’, ‘Multi Rig’ and ‘Atlas Carry’ obstacles warmed up grabs and glutes. The ‘Spear Throw’ and ‘Rope Climb’ remained the most challenging obstacles of all though for many and all finished bearing at least some signs of their struggle with the terrain and elements. Australian couple Brendan and Jade Hunt took the race by the scruff of the neck, winning the Elite Male and Female titles by finishing the course in 0:55:22 and 1:12:37. Jan-philip Dieckmann placed second ahead of Andrea Cloarec in Elite Male, while race ambassador Magdalena Cvetkovic and Kimi Isom placed second and third in Elite Female. In the Kids Race, Jan Yip and Alma De Tserclaes delighted their parents by becoming Male and Female Champions. Matthew Mok and Tsun Hei Wong came second and third in Kids Male, while Tashi Blacklock and Millie Tarrant were crowned second and third in Kids Female.
