The Fifth Beijing Chinese Valentine’s Day Cultural Festival
The Fifth Beijing Chinese Valentine's Day Cultural Festival is scheduled to take place in Tongzhou District from August 25–28, 2017, co-sponsored by the Office of Capital Civic Enhancement Committee, Beijing Tongzhou District Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Tongzhou District People's Government of Beijing Municipality. This festival aims to promote core socialist values, advocate traditional Chinese culture, continue the cultural essence of traditional festivals, drive development of Beijing's sub-centre and build a national civilised city.
Under requirements of the Publicity Department and the Civilisation Office of the CPC Central Committee on activities themed “our festivals” and of the Office of Capital Civic Enhancement Committee on celebrations of traditional festivals, the cultural festival will focus on publicity of the Chinese Dream and follow the principle of “holding activities frugally and encouraging public participation.”
This event will also carry forward outlook on marriage as fidelity and everlasting love based on traditional culture. Moreover, it helps demonstrate canal culture and charisma of Beijing's subcentre nd raise influence and creativity of traditional culture, establishing Chinese Valentine's Day in Beijing as a unique brand.
The cultural festival will launch diverse cultural activities highlighting “fidelity and diligence” to trumpet role models and everyday people's meritorious acts in Tongzhou District and advocate a positive outlook on marriage and family values.
At the festival, classic romance films will be screened at digital cinemas or via movie projectors in Tongzhou's villages and communities to create a festive atmosphere; the fifth two-day matchmaking activity “you are the right person” provides dating opportunities for youth; the interactive activity “happy Tongzhou on the Chinese Valentine's Day” made online preparations including solicitations of traditional craftsmanship, family stories and remarks on the Chinese Valentine's Day for offline cultural activities such as teaching etiquette, embroidery exhibition and photo sharing on August 26, 2017.
At the lantern show, various traditional lanterns and modern illuminations will be displayed to the public, concentrating on the theme of “connotations of Chinese Valentine's Day, canal culture, development of Beijing's sub-centre and development of a national civilised city.” A cultural lecture of Chinese Valentine's Day will be given to discuss and promote the cultural connotation of Chinese Valentine's Day by inviting experts and scholars to participate.
Additionally, other cultural activities will be held at Duanzheng Garden of Zhangjiawan Town, Yujiawu Township Cultural Square and other sites to enrich cultural life during Chinese Valentine's Day, including cultural and artistic performances, wedding dress shows and matchmaking activities. The activity at Yujiawu Township Cultural Square will play a role in encouraging the continuation of local family traditions and discipline, promoting a family tradition-based cultural brand with Yujiawu Township's characteristics.
