The Fifth Bei­jing Chi­nese Valen­tine’s Day Cul­tural Fes­ti­val

The Fifth Bei­jing Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day Cul­tural Fes­ti­val is sched­uled to take place in Tongzhou District from Au­gust 25–28, 2017, co-spon­sored by the Of­fice of Cap­i­tal Civic En­hance­ment Com­mit­tee, Bei­jing Tongzhou District Com­mit­tee of the Com­mu­nist Party of China (CPC) and Tongzhou District Peo­ple's Govern­ment of Bei­jing Mu­nic­i­pal­ity. This fes­ti­val aims to pro­mote core so­cial­ist val­ues, ad­vo­cate tra­di­tional Chi­nese cul­ture, con­tinue the cul­tural essence of tra­di­tional fes­ti­vals, drive de­vel­op­ment of Bei­jing's sub-cen­tre and build a na­tional civilised city.

Un­der re­quire­ments of the Pub­lic­ity De­part­ment and the Civil­i­sa­tion Of­fice of the CPC Cen­tral Com­mit­tee on ac­tiv­i­ties themed “our fes­ti­vals” and of the Of­fice of Cap­i­tal Civic En­hance­ment Com­mit­tee on cel­e­bra­tions of tra­di­tional fes­ti­vals, the cul­tural fes­ti­val will fo­cus on pub­lic­ity of the Chi­nese Dream and fol­low the prin­ci­ple of “hold­ing ac­tiv­i­ties fru­gally and en­cour­ag­ing pub­lic par­tic­i­pa­tion.”

This event will also carry for­ward outlook on mar­riage as fi­delity and ev­er­last­ing love based on tra­di­tional cul­ture. More­over, it helps demon­strate canal cul­ture and charisma of Bei­jing's sub­cen­tre nd raise in­flu­ence and cre­ativ­ity of tra­di­tional cul­ture, es­tab­lish­ing Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day in Bei­jing as a unique brand.

The cul­tural fes­ti­val will launch di­verse cul­tural ac­tiv­i­ties high­light­ing “fi­delity and dili­gence” to trum­pet role mod­els and ev­ery­day peo­ple's mer­i­to­ri­ous acts in Tongzhou District and ad­vo­cate a pos­i­tive outlook on mar­riage and fam­ily val­ues.

At the fes­ti­val, clas­sic ro­mance films will be screened at dig­i­tal cinemas or via movie pro­jec­tors in Tongzhou's vil­lages and com­mu­ni­ties to cre­ate a fes­tive at­mos­phere; the fifth two-day match­mak­ing ac­tiv­ity “you are the right per­son” pro­vides dat­ing op­por­tu­ni­ties for youth; the in­ter­ac­tive ac­tiv­ity “happy Tongzhou on the Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day” made on­line prepa­ra­tions in­clud­ing so­lic­i­ta­tions of tra­di­tional crafts­man­ship, fam­ily sto­ries and re­marks on the Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day for off­line cul­tural ac­tiv­i­ties such as teach­ing eti­quette, em­broi­dery ex­hi­bi­tion and photo shar­ing on Au­gust 26, 2017.

At the lantern show, var­i­ous tra­di­tional lanterns and modern il­lu­mi­na­tions will be dis­played to the pub­lic, con­cen­trat­ing on the theme of “con­no­ta­tions of Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day, canal cul­ture, de­vel­op­ment of Bei­jing's sub-cen­tre and de­vel­op­ment of a na­tional civilised city.” A cul­tural lec­ture of Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day will be given to dis­cuss and pro­mote the cul­tural con­no­ta­tion of Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day by invit­ing ex­perts and schol­ars to par­tic­i­pate.

Ad­di­tion­ally, other cul­tural ac­tiv­i­ties will be held at Duanzheng Garden of Zhangji­awan Town, Yu­ji­awu Town­ship Cul­tural Square and other sites to en­rich cul­tural life dur­ing Chi­nese Valen­tine's Day, in­clud­ing cul­tural and artis­tic per­for­mances, wed­ding dress shows and match­mak­ing ac­tiv­i­ties. The ac­tiv­ity at Yu­ji­awu Town­ship Cul­tural Square will play a role in en­cour­ag­ing the con­tin­u­a­tion of lo­cal fam­ily tra­di­tions and dis­ci­pline, pro­mot­ing a fam­ily tra­di­tion-based cul­tural brand with Yu­ji­awu Town­ship's char­ac­ter­is­tics.
