At the BAIC Mbtech Tech Open Day on September 25, Beijing BAIC Mbtech Development Center Co., Ltd. (BAIC Mbtech), with technologies of Mercedes- Benz, showcased its world- class technologies and research and development abilities to media in the automotive industry for the first time. In the past, as a powerful supporter of BAIC’S research and development, BAIC Mbtech worked as a mysterious unsung hero. Tang Xiaodong, general manager of BAIC Mbtech, said, “In the future, BAIC Mbtech will continue to introduce its innovative technological advantages of product research and development to the public.”
World-class Research and Development
Since its inception, BAIC Mbtech has boasted advantageous European technology resources, causing widespread concern both in and out of the industry. It is the only joint- venture technology centre for China’s own brand, and has been committed to research and development of BAIC’S high-end products. It is the most important and advanced scientific research centre of BAIC to date.
To acquire a world- class research and development level, BAIC Mbtech led in technical assets of Mercedes- Benz. Through digestion, absorption and application of Mercedes- Benz’s platform, BAIC Mbtech is assisting BAIC to build a complete highend research and development system and vehicle platform, so as to achieve positive research and development.
Introducing Leading Talent and Experience
Backed by the important think tank of Daimler in automotive research and development— Mbtech Group Gmbh & Co. KGAA (Mbtech), BAIC Mbtech has built a personnel and technology exchange platform with Mercedes- Benz.
In recent years, BAIC Mbtech has gathered BAIC’S most advantageous vehicle resources, and attracted many superb automotive technicians from the perspective of globalisation. Most of its experts and consultants have professional experience and used to provide high- end technical support for the world’s leading automobile manufacturers.
Tang Xiaodong once served as vice dean of the Off- Road Vehicle Research Institute of BAIC Group, and got his doctorate in structural dynamics from the University of Michigan in 1990. His development and management experience in first- class foreign institutions helped to build BAIC Mbtech into a world- class automobile research and development institution with record- breaking profits.
Faouzi Abbes serves as the chief financial officer of BAIC Mbtech. He has been engaged in the automotive industry for more than 15 years, and taken part in the entire establishment process of BAIC Mbtech. Abbes excels at
resource coordination and fund allocation, and contributes to building a first-class international management ecology of BAIC.
BAIC Mbtech’s Senior Vice President Phil Johnston was once the vice president of Mercedes- Benz U. S. International. He is committed to injecting the pure Daimler corporate culture, development strategy and management philosophy into BAIC Mbtech, to elevate BAIC’S production and management to a world- class level.
Helmut Weixner is also the senior vice president of BAIC Mbtech. He used to work for EDAG, and gained experience in automotive engineering. Weixner helps to promote the integration and transformation of Daimler’s technologies and resources in BAIC, and develops independent high- end products.

Technicians Lead BAIC’S Development
Since its inception in 2015, BAIC Mbtech has focused on developing its own brands and provided specialised technical services, creating well-recognised new development patterns of independent technologies. After two years of development, BAIC Mbtech has helped BAIC decode Mercedes-benz’s technologies and establish a high-end platform.

All-new Senova D50 Vehicle
The all-new Senova D50 brings promises for domestic automobiles. Featuring a red body with Italian design, it has simple and smooth lining, and a light yet vigorous dynamism. Its logo merges metal bars above the headlights. The entire light set is an irregular quadrilateral shape, drawing outlines of the engine’s hood, giving the car its own vehicle of strength. The Senova D50 also features original sideways and rear-end design, as well as a drag coefficient of 0.28.
The Senova D50 has a black interior design embedded with carbon fibre, a floating control screen, a yacht gear and liquid crystal displays. Customisable voice interconnection function can help drivers choose routes, enquire weather conditions, activate air conditioning and play music.
The Senova D50 has excellent performance in driving capability. Its gearbox and downshift play an active role in acceleration, providing strong support in changing lanes. The brand-new design, smart human-vehicle interaction and control enable the Senova D50 to challenge joint-venture vehicles, putting an end to a time when domestic vehicles gain price advantages at the cost of low- end equipment.
