Italian Embassy School of Beijing Showcased at KDW
The Accredited Italian Embassy School of Beijing participated in the 2017 Beijing Kids Design Week (KDW) held at the China World Mall from September 27 to October 8 and September 28 was the week's “Italian Day.” KDW aims to build into a platform with the core of “with kids, by kids, for kids” and displays achievements in cross- disciplinary research and creativity.
Students from the school joined different workshops to use their creativity. At “The World of 1×2” Workshop,” they built a small China World Mall with Lego bricks and a three- dimensional space with sticks. They became designers in the “PACEE” space dedicated to concepts of modular architecture.
The school organised a “Creative Salon” for the week, taking on the theme of “Tradition, Innovation and Continuous Research in Education; The Global Education Journey—dialogue between Italy and China.” The event guided guests to learn about the school and discussed the needs of kids living in a multicultural and digital setting.
Mariassunta Peci, a renowned psychologist, gave a speech and summarised the school's core values and characteristics. Chiara Gensini from the Inter Academy, Luca Fois from Politecnico of Milano, and others introduced the school to the public and discussed challenges and opportunities facing institutions, educators and families in the future.
At the event, an art teacher Giorgiacestaro from the school taught a creative watercolor art class to kids; a chef from the school organised a food workshop where kids learned how to make traditional Italian pasta with pesto sauce. The KDW ended with a football camp organised by Inter Academy Yihai on October 6.
