Snooker player stormed to a 10-3 victory over Kyren Wilson to win the Yushan World Open and claim his 13th ranking title. The win comes 12 years on from Ding’s maiden tournament victory, which he secured as a teenager in 2005. He has now won 13 of the 18 ranking finals he has reached.
The victory in Yushan, east China’s Jiangxi Province, netted Ding the tournament’s £150,000 ($201,285) top prize and saw him move to number two in the world rankings. Ding has now also progressed to sixth on the all-time list of number of ranking titles won.
Ding, born in 1987 in Yixing, east China’s Jiangsu Province, began playing billiards at the age of 8. By winning the third place in the Asia Championships at the age of 13, Ding gained a reputation as a prodigy of the sport.
