37, a police officer of the Public Security Bureau of Bengbu, east China’s Anhui Province, has been honored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as “the Model of the Time” for his heroism in combating crimes.

Zhang, also a member of the CPC, has completed many missions for emergencies regardless of his own safety. On January 5, 2016, a criminal suspect threatened to detonate a liquefied gas cylinder and a petroleum canister in a residential building. As a member of the task force for emergencies, Zhang rushed to the suspect at the last second before the explosion. He used his body to shield the explosion, which caused Zhang and a fellow officer to sustain second-degree burns. On November 18, 2016, Zhang became one of the first recipients of the title National Model Policemen, awarded by the Ministry of Public Security.
