a Party delegate to the 19th CPC National Congress, is a top carrier fighter pilot. In an interview, Cao told the media how he returned to the cockpit after a serious accident.

On April 6, 2016, Cao’s J-15 fighter crashed into the sea due to a technical malfunction. In a bid to save the jet, he missed the opportune moment to eject and sustained serious injuries when he fell into the sea. After he was rescued, he spent 419 days recovering in hospital.

Through an intensive rehabilitation program, he recovered sooner than expected and managed to participate in a qualification authentication procedure for carrier-based fighter pilots on May 31. He passed the examination with an excellent performance, landing a J-15 fighter smoothly on the deck of the Liaoning aircraft carrier.
