Hubei establishes largest off-campus internship base for international students
An Off-Campus Internship Base for International Students was jointly established by the Exit-Entry Administration of the Wuhan Public Security Bureau, Wuhan Fiberhome Technical Services Co., Ltd. and Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) on May
8. The base could provide 200 to 300 internships per year and will become the largest such base for international students in Hubei.
According to the Wuhan Public Security Bureau, the city is one of China's richest educational resources with over
9,000 international students from dozens of countries. The figure is expected to increase to over 17,000 by 2020.
As more companies in Wuhan are involved in international business, a specific need for international internships is growing. The international students doing internship combine theory with practice in an off-campus environment where they can learn about diverse cultures so as to be well adapted to society.
To this end, the Wuhan Public Security Bureau has made many innovative reforms, which include making preferential policies for international students in Wuhan. For instance, an excellent international postgraduate who has obtained a master's degree from a Chinese university can apply directly for a work permit in Wuhan. This encourages international students to have internships outside of school and seek employment in China. This April, Fiberhome Technical Services Co., Ltd. became a demonstration internship base for international students in Wuhan.
According to the agreement, HUST and Fiberhome will use curriculum that conforms to the demand of industrial development and will be a base that provides 200 to 300 tailormade internships annually to selected candidates. The international students rated as excellent in internship performance evaluations will have opportunities to be employed worldwide by Fiberhome.
