Wuhan Open, tennis feast
The year 2014 marked the first time that Wuhan, the hometown of tennis superstar Li Na, hosted the Wuhan Open, a WTA Premier 5 tournament. Some of the world's top players have gathered here at the Wuhan Optics Valley International Tennis Center for the event that has drawn tennis fans fromaround the world.
The WTA Wuhan Open is to be held in Wuhan every September until 2028. The Optics Valley International Tennis Center is a massive tennis facility specifically constructed to serve as the venue for the Wuhan Open.
Tennis super stars have come to Wuhan to compete in the event, including the Australian Open champion, Caroline Wozniacki, who has participated all four years in the Wuhan Open. Famous grand slam women's singles champions such as Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, Victoria Azarenka, Ana Ivanovic, Venus Williams, Samantha Stosur, Svetlana Kuznetsova, and Flavia Pennetta, have also taken part in the competition.
