World's top divers make a splash in Wuhan

The 21st FINA Div­ing World Cup held in Wuhan, fol­low­ing Lon­don, Rio and Shang­hai, from June 4 to June 10 at Wuhan Sports Cen­ter Nata­to­rium.

As one of the high-level div­ing sports events, the 11event com­pe­ti­tion has drawn 400 of the world's div­ing of­fi­cials, judges, and ath­letes to Wuhan.

On June 3, three groups of 22 Chi­nese div­ing Olympic cham­pi­ons led by Guo Jingjing vis­ited schools and swim­ming pools in Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang to pro­vide on-the-spot guid­ance to enthusiastic young divers. Six of the Olympic cham­pi­ons tak­ing part were from Hubei, and their div­ing ca­reers be­gan in Wuhan. They are Zhou Ji­hong, Fu Mingxia, Xiao Hail­iang, Hu Jia, Wang Xin, and Liu Huixia.

Since his re­tire­ment, Xiao Hail­iang has been liv­ing in Wuhan and has wit­nessed the changes in his home­town. He felt proud to have his ju­nior team­mates from the Chi­nese Na­tional Div­ing Team here in Wuhan.

As of June 6, the Chi­nese Na­tional Div­ing Team has al­ready won gold medals in the mixed 10m syn­chro­nized plat­form, mixed all-round, men's syn­chro­nized 3m spring­board, and women's 10m spring­board in this world cup.
