The 13th Asian Students Photography Exhibition released the award winners on Sept. 12. Among over 80,000 works from

30 countries and regions, a group of photos titled "Mother," shot by Changjiang Daily journalist Zhang Xizhi, was selected to win the RMB

20,000 special award, an award established for the first time in the competition.

Zhang's mother was diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma in February

2014. In that year, Zhang graduated from university and passed the entrance examination for graduate studies. To take care of his sick mother, he postponed his enrollment in graduate studies for two years. While taking care of his mother, he continued to take photos of his stoic mother receiving medical treatment. Zhang said, "My initial purpose of taking the photos was not for art's sake but for relieving my mother's disease as well as my worry and anxiety."
