The “New Retail” in the Light of the Strategic Cooperation between Alibaba Group and Bailian Group

Abstract:The retail industry is transferring from price- oriented consumption to value- oriented,experience- oriented and individualization-oriented consumption;in the era of new consumption,we need the new pattern of retail. We have just begun to explore the practice and theory of new retail and are expecting more innovation. The strategic cooperation between Alibaba Group and Bailian Group is an important and beneficial exploration,and related scholars and professionals also hold different opinions on this. Based on different kinds of description on this,the“new retail”means the connection between O2O and logistics, namely“online + offline + logistics”;the core of that is the integration of membership,payment,inventory and service related data;and the target of that is to provide all the customer groups,both online and offline,with all channel,all category,all time and all experience service and meet all their requirements anywhere and anytime. Scholars in the field of circulation should shoulder this historical responsibility,and carry out research on the new pattern,new types of business and new organization of retail industry and its development in China;and they also should put forward related suggestions for our country to formulate related national policies based on the theoretical research.
