“We used to discover medical bamboo slips. But this is the first time we have got such complete and systematic medical bamboo slips.” Archaeologist former head of the Institute of Archaeology, said after the 920 medical bamboo slips, together with other historical relics of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), were found in a subway construction site in Chengdu, Sichuan province. Xie Tao, a research fellow with Chengdu’s archaeology institute, said the books could be the lost medical classics written by the successors of Bian Que, a medical pioneer from the 5th century BC.
