Number of billionaires climbs by 41 to 358
The number of billionaires in China increased by 41, putting the country’s total at 358, just behind the United States, according to the 2014 Hurun Global Rich List.
Li Ka-shing, the Hong Kong business magnate, topped the Asia and China wealth list with a fortune of $33.3 billion.
The billionaires had a total wealth of $963 billion. Real estate, manufacturing and investments made up more than 60 percent of the wealth generated, while IT and entertainment were the fastest-growing sectors.
Seven of the world’s 10 wealthiest real estate tycoons are from China. Beijing topped the list with 57 billionaires, and Hong Kong had 49, followed by Shenzhen, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
