Num­ber of bil­lion­aires climbs by 41 to 358

The num­ber of bil­lion­aires in China in­creased by 41, putting the coun­try’s to­tal at 358, just be­hind the United States, ac­cord­ing to the 2014 Hu­run Global Rich List.

Li Ka-shing, the Hong Kong busi­ness mag­nate, topped the Asia and China wealth list with a for­tune of $33.3 bil­lion.

The bil­lion­aires had a to­tal wealth of $963 bil­lion. Real es­tate, man­u­fac­tur­ing and in­vest­ments made up more than 60 per­cent of the wealth gen­er­ated, while IT and en­ter­tain­ment were the fastest-grow­ing sec­tors.

Seven of the world’s 10 wealth­i­est real es­tate ty­coons are from China. Bei­jing topped the list with 57 bil­lion­aires, and Hong Kong had 49, fol­lowed by Shen­zhen, Shang­hai and Hangzhou.
