Progress re­ported in sand con­trol

Sand con­trol and preven­tion work was com­pleted on more than 26,730 hectares of land last year, lo­cal forestry au­thor­i­ties said on Thurs­day. A to­tal of 80.19 mil­lion yuan ($12.9 mil­lion) was in­vested in the project, which in­cludes tree plant­ing and sand dune re­pair, and 23 coun­ties were in­volved, said Lei Gui­long, head of Ti­bet’s forestry depart­ment. Ti­bet planted 69,600 hectares of for­est in 2013, and now 12 per­cent of the re­gion is cov­ered by trees.
