Work­ers place wet tis­sue paper on a statue of the Dazu Thou­sand-hand Bod­hisattva as part of a de­sali­na­tion pro­ce­dure in Chongqing’s Dazu district on Wed­nes­day. The statue was cre­ated dur­ing the South­ern Song Dy­nasty (1127–1279) and is a ma­jor fea­ture among many Dazu stone carvings. The area, with its grot­tos in steep hill­sides, has been listed as a World Her­itage Site. The re­pair and pro­tec­tion pro­gram, which started in 2011, is ex­pected to be com­pleted by early next year.
