Len­ovo’s an­nual earn­ings jump nearly 30 per­cent

Len­ovo Group Ltd, the world’s big­gest per­sonal com­puter maker, re­ported record an­nual earn­ings, helped by strong sales of per­sonal com­put­ers in Europe and smart­phone in China.

The com­pany’s an­nual earn­ings hit $817 mil­lion, a jump of nearly 30 per­cent year-on-year, ac­cord­ing to Len­ovo’s fi­nan­cial re­port. As of the fis­cal year that ended March 31, Len­ovo had shipped 55 mil­lion PCs, 50 mil­lion smart­phones and 9.2 mil­lion tablets.

Within two years, the com­pany is aim­ing to over­take Ap­ple Inc in ship­ments of desk­tops, lap­tops and tablet com­put­ers, CEO Yang Yuan­qing said. Len­ovo also pledged to build a stronger ser­vice arm, es­pe­cially in the cloud sec­tor, dur­ing the next fis­cal year.
