Innocent man jailed; court pays damages

China Daily (Canada) - - CHINA -

A man in Guangdong province received compensation from a court that wrongly convicted him of running a gambling house and jailed him for 289 days. Police had detained the man, surnamed Liu, in February 2013, and he was sentenced to 10 months in prison by a Shunde district court in May. Liu then appealed to the Shunde People’s Intermediate Court, which found Li not guilty on November 15. In the claim Liu asked for more than 200,000 yuan in compensation.
