Marching to a different — cooler — drum

China Daily (Canada) - - NEWSCAPSULE -

In an attempt to attract young people to the People’s Liberation Army, the Defense Ministry has posted on its website a music video showing new recruits walking in camp, fighter jets soaring through the sky, tanks on parade and an aircraft carrier sailing the seas.

Along with bright music, the video reminds viewers that “every boy has a dream, which glitters with the glory of struggle” and asks: “Do you remember your childhood pledge of safeguarding the motherland?”

It encourages young people to “enlist in the PLA so you can bring warmth to every peaceful dusk and dawn”.

The promo has triggered an enthusiastic response from viewers. One micro-blogger wrote: “The video makes my roommates and me want to join the PLA because the life of those in the video seems to be very cool.”
