Sur­vey shows fit­ness im­prov­ing for adults

A sur­vey of adults in 10 prov­inces and mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties said the av­er­age fit­ness level of Chi­nese adults is im­prov­ing slightly af­ter years of de­cline, and obe­sity is on the de­cline.

The sur­vey by the Gen­eral Ad­min­is­tra­tion of Sport of China an­a­lyzed data from 90,929 peo­ple. It found that 50.5 per­cent of Chi­nese aged 20 to 69 have ex­er­cised over the past year, re­flect­ing a 1.3 per­cent year-on-year in­crease.

The ra­tio of peo­ple who achieved “ex­cel­lent” among the 20-to-39 age group has in­creased by 1.6 per­cent­age points since last year.

The sur­vey also re­vealed that the obe­sity rate among Chi­nese, which had been in­creas­ing since 2005, has de­clined since 2013.

Only 13.6 per­cent of males and 10.1 per­cent of fe­males sur­veyed were found to be obese. (Photo 3)
