21 min­ers miss­ing since Au­gust con­firmed dead

The search for 21 min­ers trapped in a col­lapsed mine in Huainan ended as all the miss­ing were con­firmed dead, au­thor­i­ties said. An ex­plo­sion ripped through the Dong­fang Coal Mine on Aug 19, and 39 work­ers were caught in mine shafts hun­dreds of me­ters un­der­ground. Twelve man­aged to es­cape. By Aug 29, six bod­ies had been found and 21 re­mained miss­ing. The mine was op­er­at­ing il­le­gally when the ac­ci­dent oc­curred. Me­trop­o­lis Daily re­ported on Thurs­day. A wit­ness said the teacher had crit­i­cized the col­lege se­nior after she missed a class. The teacher had re­port­edly ridiculed her, say­ing she would not grad­u­ate school if she missed classes. Dur­ing the class break, the stu­dent got a cup of hot wa­ter and threw it at the teacher’s face. The teacher re­ceived im­me­di­ate treat­ment, but his face was still swollen with blis­ters. .
