In­jured panda dies after surgery

An in­jured panda, res­cued and sent for treat­ment onNov 17, died in a panda pro­tec­tion cen­ter in Chengdu on Tues­day, thep­a­per.cn re­ported. It was orig­i­nally thought Ping Ping, the 3-year-old panda, had been at­tacked by a group of martens, but ex­am­i­na­tion re­vealed that a 4-cm­long wound on its stom­ach was caused by a fall from a tree. Ping Ping was found in­jured, with its in­testines ex­posed, in a cave near a pa­trol sta­tion in the Tangji­ahe Na­ture Re­serve, and was re­ported be­ing out of dan­ger after surgery on Nov 20, but the wound proved fa­tal after all.
