Farmer com­pen­sated for wrong­ful jail­ing

A man in Haikou re­ceived 1.6 mil­lion yuan ($261,000) in com­pen­sa­tion after be­ing wrong­fully im­pris­oned 14 years ago, thep­a­per.com re­ported on Thurs­day. Huang Ji­aguang, 42, a farmer in the city’s Dong­shan town­ship, was de­tained in 1996 as a sus­pect in a 1994 mur­der case. He was sentenced to life im­pris­on­ment in 2000. Huang’s fam­ily ap­pealed re­peat­edly. The provin­cial high court ruled re­cently that Huang was not guilty and re­leased him on Sept 29.
