For­mer univer­sity pres­i­dent stands trial

Zhou Wen­bin, for­mer pres­i­dent of Nan­chang Univer­sity, was ac­cused in court on Tues­day of hav­ing in­ti­mate re­la­tion­ships with six women. Zhou is be­ing tried in the Nan­chang In­ter­me­di­ate Peo­ple’s Court on charges of bribery and em­bez­zle­ment of pub­lic funds. One of the six women, sur­named Shen, said she re­ceived 8.5 mil­lion yuan (1.4 mil­lion) from Zhou to invest in real es­tate. Zhou had served as pres­i­dent of the univer­sity since 2002 and was dis­missed from his post in June. The bribes he ac­cepted to­taled more than 22 mil­lion yuan, ac­cord­ing to the court.
