TheHu­tong cul­ture cen­ter in Beijing will host its an­nual char­ity bake-off to in­dulge Beijing’s most in­dul­gent cookie monsters, showcase some of Beijing’s best bak­ers, and support a lo­cal com­mu­nity char­ity. Com­peti­tors ea­ger to present their fa­vorite cookie cre­ations should sub­mit one recipe to TheHu­tong (e-mail: Kris­ten@lumdim­sum.com) by Feb 9, ide­ally with a one-sen­tence ex­pla­na­tion of why it’s awe­some and a photo of the fin­ished cookie. TheHu­tong will pick­20recipes to­com­pete in it­sMarch 14Cook­ieMon­sterBake-Off. Se­lected con­tes­tantsmust­pro­vide enoughs­mall cookie bite sam­ples to go around (for about 50 peo­ple). All will also be al­lowed to sell their own cook­ies (each bag of five cook­ies for 20 yuan, of which 5 yuan will be do­nated to a se­lect char­ity). For cookie fans who just want to come and snack, the en­trance price is 150 yuan (which in­cludes sam­ple bites of all 20 cook­ies plus one drink). TheHu­tong will also be sell­ing and serv­ing up some hot drinks: Warm milk (that’s what the Cook­ieMon­ster likes to dunk his cook­ies into), hot choco­late, chai tea, mulled wine and hot tod­dies.
