Bus ar­son­ist ad­mits guilt

Bao Laixu, whowas ac­cused of set­ting fire to a bus filled with pas­sen­gers in Hangzhou in July, ad­mit­ted guilt dur­ing his trial on Wed­nes­day. Bao, 35, was in poor health af­ter the fire and had both his feet am­pu­tated. He at­tended the trial ly­ing in bed. He ad­mit­ted start­ing the fire that killed 47 peo­ple and in­jured 34 oth­ers, say­ing he re­gret­ted hurt­ing so­many peo­ple. “I did not feel like living at that time and got on a ran­dom­bus. NowI know that in­no­cent pas­sen­gers were hurt be­cause of me. It is too late to say any­thing. I have to pay for what I did,” he told the court.
