‘Talent deficit’ needs to be addressed: Report
China is experiencing a “talent deficit” and needs to improve conditions to attract more talented foreigners, according to a report released by a Chinese think-tank.
There were 848,500 foreigners in China in 2013, accounting for 0.06 percent of the total population, and there are currently about 60 million overseas Chinese living in 198 counties and regions, according to the Annual Report on Chinese International Migration issued by the Center for China and Globalization.
About 6,000 foreigners were granted permanent residence in China between 1985 and 2012. In contrast, more than 100,000 Chinese received permanent residence in other countries annually in recent years.
