‘Tal­ent deficit’ needs to be ad­dressed: Re­port

China is experiencing a “tal­ent deficit” and needs to im­prove con­di­tions to at­tract more tal­ented for­eign­ers, ac­cord­ing to a re­port re­leased by a Chi­nese think-tank.

There were 848,500 for­eign­ers in China in 2013, ac­count­ing for 0.06 per­cent of the to­tal pop­u­la­tion, and there are cur­rently about 60 mil­lion over­seas Chi­nese living in 198 coun­ties and re­gions, ac­cord­ing to the An­nual Re­port on Chi­nese In­ter­na­tional Migration is­sued by the Cen­ter for China and Glob­al­iza­tion.

About 6,000 for­eign­ers were granted per­ma­nent res­i­dence in China be­tween 1985 and 2012. In con­trast, more than 100,000 Chi­nese re­ceived per­ma­nent res­i­dence in other coun­tries an­nu­ally in re­cent years.
