Alibaba is top tax­payer among In­ter­net firms

Alibaba Group Hold­ing has be­come China’s high­est tax­pay­ing In­ter­net firm, in pay­ing 10.9 bil­lion yuan ($1.76 bil­lion) in taxes last year.

Li Qiang, gover­nor of Zhe­jiang prov­ince, where Alibaba is based, said that the In­ter­net gi­ant had made “a huge con­tri­bu­tion to tax rev­enues last year, pay­ing al­most 30 mil­lion yuan on an av­er­age per day.”

The to­tal tax Alibaba paid rose 56.4 per­cent in 2014 from 7 bil­lion yuan in 2013.

Rev­enue at the world’s largest e-com­merce plat­form rose 40 per­cent to 26.18 bil­lion yuan in the fourth quar­ter last year, ac­cord­ing to the com­pany’s earn­ings re­port. (Photo 3)
