Econ­omy among top goals for 13th Five-Year Plan

China will con­tinue its fo­cus on eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment and main­tain the “medium-high growth rate” of its econ­omy, China’s top lead­ers said.

The coun­try is aim­ing for a de­vel­op­ment pat­tern of “higher qual­ity, ef­fi­ciency, equal­ity and sus­tain­abil­ity”, said a state­ment is­sued af­ter the meet­ing on Mon­day of the Po­lit­i­cal Bureau of the Com­mu­nist Party of China Cen­tral Com­mit­tee. High on the agenda is the dis­cus­sion of the 13th Five-Year Plan of Na­tional De­vel­op­ment (2016-20).

As the last year of the 12th FiveYear Plan (2011-15) nears its fi­nal five months, the cen­tral gov­ern­ment is de­vis­ing a de­vel­op­ment pol­icy for the 13th plan, the first un­der Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping.

The Po­lit­i­cal Bureau also an­nounced that the 18th Com­mu­nist Party of China Cen­tral Com­mit­tee will hold its fifth ple­nary ses­sion in Bei­jing in Oc­to­ber.
